Terms & Conditions
Types of Pictures Accepted:
Landscapes; Macro; Drone
This is a photography contest. All submissions must be taken in Louisiana with voting preference given to Jackson Parish or the immediate surrounding parishes making geographic border contact with Jackson Parish. GPS coordinates and/or the address where it was taken must be included with the submission. GPS coordinates will be included with the artwork if it is selected, but only the Parish/City/State will be included if GPS is not available.
No painted artwork, abstract art, digital renderings, or etc., will be accepted. Submissions will be moderated for content and compliance with the contest rules prior to being accepted into the contest voting pool.
Requirements for Submission:
To submit artwork for consideration, the photographer must sign a consent indicating that they are the owners of the copyright to the work, agree to sell the copyright to Jackson Parish Hospital (JPH) if selected as a winner, and are willing and able to submit necessary paperwork to JPH to be paid through JPHs normal payment process.
Pictures should either be of public property, visible from public property, or taken with permission of the owner if private property. JPH will not entertain pictures of the interior or exterior of private homes, areas, or facilities taken without proper consent.
No brand names as primary feature of the picture - it is acceptable if there is a vintage sign at the picture location or a small logo in the background that just happens to be captured in the shot, but JPH is only featuring photographs from the community, not commercial products or advertisements.
No family, public or private gathering, or individual-focused pictures (people can be present if taken in a public area but should be unrecognizable and not the focus of the photograph).
No primarily animal-centric photographs - No game camera shots or shots of animals/fish after hunting/fishing. JPH will exclude any submitted pictures of dead creatures from the competition. Images with animals in them are acceptable, but they should not be the sole focus of the image. For example, an image of a deer drinking from a bayou is acceptable, while an image of a family pet or farm animal looking directly at the camera is not.
Photographs will remain in the competition for one calendar year unless the submitter requests their removal. At the start of the next calendar year, they must be resubmitted to be considered again. Previous winning photographs cannot be resubmitted for consideration a second time.
All entries will be subject to moderation. JPH has absolute discretion to accept or reject any entry and to remove any entry already accepted without giving reasons for the decision.
File Size/Type/Resolution Requirements:
Full resolution files are not necessary to be considered in the JPH Photography Contest and watermarked files are acceptable during the submission/voting process. In the event of selection as a winner, a full-resolution image meeting the requirements below will be required to receive payment, with all watermarks or other identifying marks removed from the final product.
We accept a wide range of file formats including JPEG, TIFF, and PNG, with TIFF as the preferred format. As for file size, 300 dpi at size/printing resolution works best. In general, the larger the file size the better the quality. However, file size does not necessarily determine photo quality.
JPH utilizes Vivid Metal Prints as our preferred artwork printer. They provide an image quality test website to determine quality and acceptability of images. Any images uploaded to their test site are only for quality validation purposes and are not transmitted to JPH or entered into the artwork competition.
JPH Standard Artwork Print Size/Minimum Resolutions:
- 799 pixels x 999 pixels, 16x20 Metal Print
- 899 pixels x 1199 pixels, 18x24 Metal Print
- 999 pixels x 1499 pixels, 20x30 Metal Print
- 1199 pixels x 1798 pixels, 24x36 Metal Print
- 1598 pixels x 2398 pixels, 32x48 Metal Print
The resolutions above are the minimums required by the printer, but higher resolutions are greatly preferred. A modern digital camera at 5MP or higher is capable of all above listed resolutions.
JPH is responsible for all costs of printing and hanging winning artwork and reserves the right to determine facility location, duration, size and any other considerations of the final printed work. The Metal Print sizing listed above is provided only as guidance in relation to the standard resolutions needed to support a quality physical print of the submitted artwork. If the final resolution of the artwork does not meet any standard physical print sizing utilized by JPH, it cannot be accepted as it cannot be printed at an acceptable quality level for display. By submitting an image for voting consideration, you acknowledge that you can provide a final image at one of the minimum resolutions above or higher if selected as a winning submission.
Submission Limitations:
Jackson Parish Hospital staff and immediate family member(s) can submit artwork for consideration but are excluded from receiving payment if images are selected through the voting process. Any potential payment to an employee or immediate family member would be a violation under the Louisiana State Ethics Code (La. R.S. 42:1113). Any images submitted by staff or an immediate family member(s) and selected as a winner would be considered a donation of the copyright to JPH. The photographer will still receive credit with the artwork when printed and displayed, but without payment.
How Winners are Selected:
Four pictures will be selected each quarter by online voting of employees of Jackson Parish Hospital with $250 paid to each winner for the artwork copyright. While JPH is purchasing the copyright to the work as part of the prize winnings, artist credit will be given in each location where the art is displayed at Jackson Parish Hospital.
JPH is a public organization and cannot pay for a product not received. Prior to payment being completed for the copyright work, winners must submit all necessary information to process payment as well as the final full-resolution version of the photograph or work and copyright purchase paperwork. Current and past winners will be posted on the Photography Contest website. JPH would optionally like to feature winning photographers on our social media pages; if this is acceptable to the winner, a consent form will also be required.
Winning photographs will be selected through an internal Intranet site for employees of JPH. All submitted works received in the calendar year will be posted for review and all JPH staff will receive four votes per quarter. The four highest ranked works will be selected as the winning works for that quarter. All submissions must be received by the last day of the calendar quarter, winners will be announced at the end of the following month. Winning submissions will be removed from future contests and winners will be contacted to move forward with copyright purchase, final resolution submission, and payment.
Pictures not selected will roll over to the next quarter's competition in the same calendar year unless the submitter requests their removal from the competition. Any submissions that did not win during the calendar year will need to be resubmitted in the next calendar year’s contest to be considered again. There is no cost for entry or limit to submissions and each entry will be voted on separately.
Only the quarterly contest winners will be notified. JPH reserves the right to select an alternative winner through quarterly voting totals if one or more of the top four submission participants cannot be contacted within three business days of the completion of voting. By submitting artwork to this contest, participants attest that they are the valid copyright owner of the work and have met all contest requirements. If it is later discovered that the participant has not met the criteria or has been deceptive in their artwork submission, JPH reserves the right to remove any or all of the participants’ existing remaining submissions from the contest, ban the participant from future submission(s), and seek recovery of any payments made for artwork copyright(s).
Quarterly Timelines:

- Q2 April to June Winners announced end of July
- Q3 July to September Winners announced end of October
